Doha, Qatar 23.01.07

Dad
Doha has been more fun than we expected! Apart from having great weather (ha ha), the place is a hive of activity and there is a buzz about the area, mostly due to the amount of construction work being carried out...... everything here is brand spanking new! All of the sky scrapers you can see in the photos have been built in the last five years which is incredible in itself.

There are many, many more being constructed and the amount of building work is like nothing we have seen! The buildings themselves are a sight to behold with bold sexy architecture in abundance. You can see a snap of Matt's favourite below.

The area is awash with money and this is reflected in the cars that are cruising around, with a favourite being the Hummer.

Moving on from the surroundings, we spent one busy day sight seeing. Firstly we went to a new market place that had been constructed in a traditional manner and it was full of character as well as interesting stalls with all sorts on sale. We went out to the desert just to see it really, as Matt had not seen the desert before. When we got near we could see stalls of quads at the foot of the dunes, so we decided on hiring a couple for half an hour to tear around the dunes on. What fun that was! Doughnuts a plenty. We got some great snaps of the dunes and stuff.

We then went on to visit Martin's friends and then onto a club for drinks and some entertaining bands! (Google Mocha Band, they have done FHM and Maxim spreads)

Anyway, as we write this we are now getting excited about the imminent journey to Bangkok. We leave at 8.30pm tonight (Doha Time) and Arrive at something like 6.30am Thai time. We will update the blog when we next get to a machine, whenever that will be.

Onwards to the Middle East

On saying our goodbyes to John, Sue, Peanut and the animals, we set off for Madrid in order to get the overnight flight to Doha (which is the capital of Qatar, slap bang in the middle of the gulf!). We took a four hour train journey through Spain (some very nice scenery and all that) in order to reach Madrid, where we then took the underground up towards the airport. After a brief detour to see the Bernabeu Stadium (Home to the Mighty Real Madrid) we arrived at the airport with plenty of time to kill when DISASTER STRUCK!............ Dipi lost her make up bag on the tube (or it was stolen, we still cant work it out!) So after a few tears and a trip round the make up shops (unsuccessful I might add. Its an exact science buying make up and not just about colours it would seem!) we were on our way on the overnight flight, which was a little painful as not much sleep was had. We are now in Doha and we have been chilling at Dipi's dads place. Reading, sorting bits for the blog and listening to Arab Prayers coming from loud speakers all around! We resisted the urge to pray it has to be said. We are planning to go out on a desert trip which should be mucho fun!

Hola! We're staying with our good friends John and Sue in their spanish town house in Coin (30 Mins inland from Marbella). At the moment our days mostly consist of sleeping, eating, drinking good rioja, cheap beer and catching a few rays on the sunny roof terrace. The weather is good here with it hitting around 25 degrees during the day and cool in the evenings. Nice! It does feel a little like we are on holiday and that we will be back soon........we dont think its going to really start to sink in until we hit thailand. Hope you are all very well and please feel free to leave comments (try and keep it clean as my neices will be looking in) as it would be great to hear from you all. Matt & Dipi.
